Talk with Tracy. . . . . “Sunrise…..Sunset…..Sunrise…..Sunset…..” Simple words to an amazing act on earth! I witnessed a beautiful sunrise driving over to Jacksonville this morning to be with my sister who was having some surgery. (She is doing fine and may get to go home tomorrow.) It was truly a beautiful sky that reminded me of God’s goodness. It is good to be reminded of God’s goodness in our daily lives. Think of all the ways we can witness God’s grace and goodness: the flowers that everyone longs for in the spring, the sweet smile on a baby’s face, the wrinkle on a grandmother’s hand, the angel that gets us through a rough time, the happy tears at a wedding, and many others you may be thinking about right now. It doesn’t always take much for us to recognize God all around us. This past Sunday, our youth lead the worship service for Youth Sunday. We had a great service praising God through music and word. God was definitely all around us! We spoke about how God takes gifts from each of us individually and uses them with gifts from others to become even larger blessings. We set an example of this each week when we share the gifts of our tithes and offerings and when we place our gifts in the Penny Raiders baskets. A challenge was offered during the service on Sunday for each of us to find ways to grow a gift that we were given. Each family received an envelope. In that envelope was a cash amount for each family to do with what they choose to be able to bring back an investment for the Lord. Risky? Maybe a little. Challenging? A whole lot. Each person/family can use as much creativity as possible, even joining together with another family to find ways to make your gift an investment for the Lord. If you need additional ideas, I am happy to help you come up with them. If you re-invest the money, there will be a designated Sunday to bring back your “offering.” If your dollar amount doesn’t increase, there will also be an opportunity to share your story with us about what you did for your investment. If you did not receive an envelope or were unable to be with us on Sunday, please contact the church office. We want as many as possible to be involved in this project . IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR ANY FEEDBACK THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE ABOUT THIS ADVENTURE/PROJECT, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. Hearing from you helps me evaluate the projects that we share together. You may wonder what I am going to do with my envelope???? I’m still thinking about it but I look forward to putting my envelope together with yours and making a bigger impact for God. I am very glad to be your Pastor, Pastor Tracy
WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW. . . . . . . We have been having conversation at First Christian Church about enhancing our worship space with equipment that would allow us to use more audio and visual material during the time that we are in the Sanctuary—worship, weddings, workshops, etc. We have been talking about this for some time and we would like to include as many people as possible with this ministry. Below are a list of some of the Enhancements or Advantages of a new system as well as the Challenges or Disadvantages. The system would basically consist of a screen, projector and sound equipment that would allow us to use visual aids as part of our ministry. Please take time to read and wonder about the lists below.
Enhancements/Advantages to having a Projector system in the Sanctuary With visual material, it could be a real benefit to individuals who have hearing impairment. There would be a smoother flow in worship. There could be more energy and involvement. It would be easier to try new methods of worship. Pulls the congregation together—meeting needs of all interests. Using our C.C.L.I. license to access many kinds of music. A visual representation is good for those who are oriented to that style. We could use the video system for Minute for Missions. We could show pictures from our church events. We could do some education about Outreach ministries. The church will have a more “up-to-date” look and feel and perhaps attract more younger people. More opportunities to learn new music. There are many, many items available including some of the curriculum and resources we already use that have a lot of visual aid material that we are missing out on utilizing. Children and youth seem to respond to visual learning aids and this could be a big advantage for our younger worshippers.
Challenges/Disadvantages to having a Projector system in the Sanctuary Takes time for someone to be prepared for the organization that would be needed to use the system. Placement in our sanctuary. May be hard for some folks to see on the screen so we would need large print. May be too loud for some. The system we get may rapidly go “out of date.” Cost. Some feel that it may take away from the esthetics of our sanctuary. We don’t want too heavily reliance on the internet and not personal messages. Is it an Investment or a Cost?
Many of the thoughts included in these 2 lists were shared by the Cabinet. The Cabinet is made up of the Ministry Area Chairpersons and the Board Chair and Vice Chair as well Pastor Tracy. If you have additional comments to add to this list, please email them to the church at fccqcy@adams.net or submit them in writing to the church office. We will have an updated writing in the next Builder. Let us know what you think — this church is for all of us!!
